Google My Business Finally Welcomes Video

The turn of the new year saw Google introduce a lot of changes to the operating systems of a variety of its platforms. This included increasing multiple new languages to its Maps platform as well as moving one step closer to infinite scrolling on their main search engine through the adoption of a ‘more results’ page. However, it is clear that the developments and changes did not stop there. Google My Business has now got in on the act and it appears that the option to upload videos to a listing on this site has finally arrived. The ability to add a video to a local listing via Google Maps has been in place since August 2017 but January 2018 is the first time that this option is showing up inside of the GMB dashboard. An official announcement from a Google My Business representative confirmed the development and the ability […]

Explosive Twitter Growth for Small Businesses in 5 Easy Steps

small business twitter growth

Grow your small business Twitter account in 30 minutes a day Last fall, I wrote a guest post at the Exodus Digital Marketing blog about how I had managed to grow LinkNow Media’s Twitter account from the 50-60 followers we’d had since the account was created in 2011 to over 900 followers in about nine months. You might think that this isn’t any great achievement – 900 followers isn’t exactly a huge number when compared to some other brands out there. But when you consider that I’m the only person managing our company’s social media and I’m only able to spend, at most, 30 minutes each day working on our Twitter account, growing our follower count by 1500% is actually pretty huge. Since then, our growth has accelerated. In just over four months, we’ve added another 750+ followers, and there’s been no sign of slowing down. With that in mind, […]

Your 2017 Online Marketing Plan

2017 marketing plan

2016 was a big year for digital marketing Hoo boy. It’s been quite a year, huh? It’s been a year of big changes all around, and the digital marketing world has been no different. SEO was shaken up in 2016 by a series of Google updates. Between the update to Penguin, the unconfirmed “Possum” update, and Google doubling down on their commitment to mobile-first search, a lot of people saw their rankings change in 2016. We also saw Google’s RankBrain really start to make a huge impact in the search results (and elsewhere, like in Google Translate). RankBrain, using machine learning, is helping Google better understand the content and purpose of websites as well as understand searcher intent better. This was also the year when marketers went crazy for online video. Video has been a digital marketing staple for years, but with Facebook and Twitter jumping on the autoplaying video […]

How to Create Your Brand Voice

how to create your brand voice

Give your business a social media identity The way we choose to communicate says a lot about us, and this applies to companies just as much as it does to human beings. When most small businesses first create social media accounts, they’re just thinking that this is a new way to get information to their customers. But if you haven’t thought carefully about your brand voice, you may be missing opportunities to connect – or worse, alienating customers! What is a brand voice? Put simply, a brand voice is the way that your brand communicates with the outside world – the tone you use and the style of your writing. If you haven’t thought about it, you’ve probably just defaulted to using your own voice and style when writing social media posts, but this isn’t always the best route. Why does brand voice matter? Brand voice matters for the same […]
